The Month of the Heart of Winter

the new leaf of January is my Month!

happy wednesday thoughts

After our breakfast date with Mrs. Dempsey last Sunday, we drove her home to Binan. It was an impromptu take off which we don’t need to think overly. And because it’s Sunday, SLEX was like a driver’s haven. Leoncio and I enjoyed our way back to the city, except for some minor scuffing our Sunday was perfectly indeed! We’re driving south by end of the week to attend a funeral, I hope the road will be as trouble-free as this.

Happy Wednesday! 😛

Rustan’s Supermarket my choice

Our visit at the supermarket on Sundays all but becomes our Sun-date, it’s because we love doing the routine together. We love the supermarket ambiance –husband loves to push and fill big carts, along with, it makes me happy to find good deals. Anyway, who wouldn’t feel complete if your car’s boot is loaded with supermarket bags?

Amongst our local supermarket, we love to frequent The Landmark because they have hard to find products plus they’re supplies are less expensive compared to the supermalls very own supermarket. But our first love would be Rustan’s Supermarket above, gone are the days when Rustan’s means pricey for us. These days when we don’t need to buy too much and we just need to stock up for the week we would normally make that trip to Rustan’s Supermarket in Rockwell, which is by the way in close proximity to where we live. We love it that supermarket don’t get too crowded on weekends, I assume it’s because the neighboring Bel-Air residents does schedule their supermarket-day on weekdays. 🙂

If you’re like us who simply love the supermarket, Rustan’s Supermarket Fresh Selection would be the thing for you. They have a wide array of farm fresh products including the juiciest fruits, freshly-picked produce, freshly caught fish and seafoods and the choicest cuts of meat and poultry, and sourced both locally and from abroad.

And who can’t resist such offers –Oranges P15/pc Buy Two Take One. It’s Divi price already! 🙂  We also found atypical variety of extra large Mandarin oranges, Satsuma the seedless variety is sweet, juicy and easy to peel. And its colorful orange fruit is a surprise against its dark green skin. We got 3pcs for P64.94 only.

Rustan’s Fresh Savings is ideal for us who remains budget conscious despite our big allowance for food. And Buy One Take One promos are such a hit. The Oatie Bran Bread was such a steal for P66 only, two whole loaves for the price of one. 🙂

We were also delighted to find discounted Marks & Spencer Digestives on the shelves, less 20% on Milk Chocolate and Dark Chocolate. We love to have biscuits at home but these digestives are few luxury goods that we cannot afford to buy regularly, so we got two packs only. I hope the sale extend until next week so we can treat ourselves again.

Another discovery were the packs of paper towels which we’re both obsessed with, P85 per pack of 3’s (120 pulls) isn’t no way going to ruin our budget anyway. And I cannot agree more that everything in Rustan’s Supermarket supports the reputation their carefully built on –quality and affordability.

Now, I’m praying my money tree to bear more papers bills, hehehe. 😀

big-time friendship over shared breakfast

My dear friend’s homecoming turned out to be the good excuse for me to go out today (despite the flu I’m nursing for days now 😦  ) and likewise it became the occasion to give The Strand Café a second comeback after last week’s.

Unlike last Sunday I was up and prepared early this morning, Leoncio and I hit the 7am meet up which I arranged last Friday. But our date came even an hour earlier than us, just look what her new environs had taught her now, when you say 7 she would ensure to get by or beat the time no matter how far she came from. Time is gold and for us whose not getting any younger we should be observant of it. GP, I hope you’re reading this so you would change old habits and start your day early like us. Remember that the early bird catches the worms! 🙂

Well, I thought that the breakfast get-together was a lot better because we could save the later part of the day with our personal errands plus it gives us more time to catch up. I myself picked The Strand Café for reasons, I find the place perfect for morning people (which I’m not), breakfast lover (which I am!) and I solely love the setting –cozy that perfectly goes with a cup of coffee. Besides the smorgasbord of delicious breakfast fare was so inviting (adding its super affordable promo price of P288!).

Because we were early this time I was able to scan the buffet spread, still not very detailed but this would do for those who would like to check out the café soon.

The cold cuts and cheese station, I’m not very sure if its Canadian ham (leftmost in photo) or not but it tasted pretty good that I kept returning for it.

Canapes, these were new additions. 🙂

The bread station had plenty of muffins, rolls, and pandesal and loaf breads this time. Check!

Soup corner, they had do-it-yourself beef mami. I only wish the noodles were not soggy. 😦

French toast and pancakes, again? 😐

Scrambled egg and spaghetti carbonara, again 😐  I wish they turned this pasta dish into a tomato-based one plus my Leoncio would like to give you tips guys on how to cook the pasta al dente style.

Sighted sweet and sour squid balls again (not a happy sighting 😦  ) and chicken adobo. Though I love this version of chicken adobo it was a disappointment for Leoncio because he’s no way eating chicken unless it’s fried and roasted. Guess it would have been better if the chicken adobo flakes was retained as it could also be a house specialty of the café (in my opinion).

Desserts were cream puffs and chocolate cups, there were still fresh fruits but for the second time it had no appeal on me.

Cereals and juices and the salad station remains as is.

Probably because I was busy chatting with the friend, my attention was diverted and that I ended finishing three plates only. 😀

One –rolls, butter, marmalade, cheese and ham

Two –pancakes and ham

Three –fried rice and chicken adobo

I remember getting a separate plate of scrambled eggs which I ate together with my first plate. No salad and desserts for me and a cup of coffee completed my big breakfast.

I burped at the end even without trying everything offered today and even if The Strand Café menu didn’t really made any difference it does feel good because we were able to spend breakfast with the friend who denied still loving the night life, hehehe. The Strand Café still created that impression on me that it’s the new hang-out in the Salcedo block, proves the many diners we witnessed today. The promo will end next Sunday (September 30) so you have 7 more days to indulge starting tomorrow morning. 😀

Oh and by the way, I have to thank the friend for sponsoring our breakfast today.

Dear Mrs. Dempsey.

You know how I look forward every year to your homecoming because it means pretty good things –old friendship, get-together and of course, good food. You know that aside from those good things, I miss you, I miss your boldness, I miss your wild stories, I can’t help but recall all the years we spent together, the survival we had, the younger years –StreetLife nights, we party hard for all I know. You were there at the highlight of my life so you had seen my ups and downs and I was always the other person ready to listen when you’re hurting. You know I had a big crush with (you know who) in the past but you never tease me around, that saves me from a lot of blushing hehehe. I remember the times when I need to play chaperone to your dates and make those guys believe we reside in Prince Plaza. I had vivid recollection of the men you dated but none of them made you the happiest until you found Mr. Dempsey, and when he found the gorgeousness in you he sent you tickets to visit him in Ireland. How can I forget the time you phoned me and excitedly blurted it out, you’re getting married! I was so happy for you that finally I’ll see you walk the aisle with your equally handsome groom. Your wedding was a blast and I witnessed every bit of it, the six months prep was a success. Now that we may be living different world apart and rarely spent days together, I’d like to assert you that I remain to be the friend you had 16 years ago. 😛

Love, Ma-ma

down with flu

I’ve got flu since Tuesday of this week and it’s making me worn out easily after working half day only. Today it got worst and my eyes wanted to shut down, and I wanted is to go home, hit the bed and sleep. I think I need a day off to recuperate but work stops me from getting that much-needed break. Okay, just in case I won’t be online for the next couple of days it means the flu had me down. But that would mean missing a get-together this weekend and I can’t afford to let it pass. Oh God, I have to get well or else I would get stuck at home wasting my precious time.

Okay, aside from the sickness, this day seems not a lucky one for me 😦  . I thought I could have my hair fixed this October only to find out that slots are all full, now I have to wait until the first week of November. Anyway, that would do at least the hair would look fab by December.

I’m not so excited about attending this year’s Mooncake Festival again but I still have until tomorrow to think about it, come Sunday, I hope everyone can make it for breakfast 🙂 .

I miss my Piltea family and someone is back in town!

i ask of you Lord…

Lord, as the rain continues its heavy downpour the more people suffer, the more family becomes homeless and hungry. And during this time I consider myself fortunate because we’re not affected by all of these. We have food to eat and we have shelter to stay day and night. Lord, with all these I am so thankful but I asked of you to teach me how to appreciate what I have right now, teach me not to feel envious on other’s riches. Open my eyes to see that what surrounds me is beautiful and lasting. Teach me to use my talents to improve our life without throbbing anyone. Teach me to love what I do every day.

Lord, I don’t ask for material possessions in an instant, I believe I can work for it. I don’t ask for so much, an adequate amount would do. Except that I would like to ask your blessing and grace, please continue to bless my family with a big heart, a good health and a sound mind. And as we sleep peacefully each night, allow us to welcome each new sunrise with big hopes of a better day. Free our worries and make us courageous to face any storm.

Lord, these are all I pray. Amen.

a blogger’s wish

I know I told you guys I won’t be making any of my lavish wish list this year because Leoncio and I needs to save up for our upcoming project in 2013 however, I can’t help not to disclose what’s been flashing on my head for the last two months.

NEX Camera, Professional quality in your pocket

Yes, I need a new and smaller camera. Not that I will give up my rebel baby hence I just need a stand-in camera which I can bring along every day. The kind that isn’t bulky but can do the job of the DSLR as well. The Sony NEX camera models would perfectly fit my lifestyle. And mind you I’ve been seeing more and more bloggers these days resorting to this unit because it’s equipped with a changeable lens. How cool is that?

It’s impractical to buy this valuable now, so I have to continue praying and wishing that something good is coming up for me. 😀

P.S. As a blogger of my own, I have some more list to go but the NEX baby is the essential one…99 more days to go before Christmas Day, start your countdown now!
