The Month of the Heart of Winter

the new leaf of January is my Month!

Monthly Archives: March 2013

Holy Week is all about praying and fasting and vacationing (in my case)

Like the previous years, Holy Week is the best time to pause and reflect tho on my side it means vacationing as well and getting a long break from work. Hallelujah!

We’re bound to somewhere else later, no definite yet because of some last minute emergencies and issues. But if I’m the only one to decide I’d rather spent it in my hometown this year –get to see old friends and organize a small reunion, bond with the maternals and drive along the Calabarzon (well, except Rizal province) and visit touristy spots I’ve never been. Last night, Leoncio and I were rather considering Ilocos in May just in time for town fiesta so we can eyewitness the Tikanlu Festival. But we have yet to decide later on today.

By the way, I still got a full day work today despite the city’s 106th anniversary. I requested my girls to come in full force too, quarter end is always chaotic at the office and slips are not accepted. I’m glad they willingly go without me using any force, hehehe… anyway, they’ll get overtime pay while mine is free and thank you only.

I know it’s not the best time for my big cravings but Deals Grocer’s Famous Skylounge offer is very tempting, I passed on it several times but something’s holding me back in hitting the Buy button again. I feel guilty somehow. Hehehe…

Now, seriously here, I push everyone to pray and fast. Humble yourself and repent. I am no saint and I have my own wrongdoings but I don’t do things repeatedly, I rest my case and I leave it all to God.

A blessed Holy Week to everyone!

Elaine’s visit

Even if I wanted to keep in tune and hang back on what’s going on around the blogosphere time is not permitting me to do it this time. My hands are full of things needed to close before the long break and I only have a day to wrap up everything. Sigh!

Anyhow, my high school best buddy is currently in town and we explored some of Manila’s. Take note that right after her 18 hours flight, we had bottomless mojitos and margaritas to our heart’s content. I promise to be back at Agave. Burp!

Elaine was not so impressed with BGC, probably she would enjoy more if she had seen it at daytime when there’s more green in its place. But hey, we goofed around and pretend that we’re in NY waiting for yellow cabs. Nice idea Albert!

By the way, I stayed with her 2-bedroom suite the first night, yep, her deluxe booking was upgraded to a suite only that we have to request a transfer the following day because of a busted aircon. Boo to Best Western Antel Plus for it. 😦

Breakfast buffet is a-okay, nothing to rave about in fact she’s willing to trade off for a Jollibee meal. Hehehe…

I wanted to tour her around downtown but because of her very tight schedule, it didn’t happen and put in the nearby Ayala Center in our list.

Well, there are basically two things to do while at the heart of Makati –eating and shopping! We pick out the former and gone PG (patay-gutom) at Bubba Gump!

And at noon time we’re having some alcohol mixed drinks aka Specialty Drinks. 😀

And oh I didn’t know that Conti’s already made a name in the US, Elaine was bugging me even prior to her arrival that we should include this in our list and Mango Bravo is a must. She finally got her sweet fix though I didn’t hear her comment on it yet.

Sunday night, I invited her out for coffee but her liking for beer won over. Instead of Starbucks we settled at Army Navy for some cold beer and fries and onion rings. Greg who’s from another planet (peace man! 🙂 ) joined our party.  It was a beautiful occasion to catch up even if the meeting was too short. I can only wish there’s no work that waits for me the following day guys.

And to end this post, I wish the universe would conspire and allow us to meet once more before she leaves Manila on the 4th of April, it would definitely end in never-ending fun. 😛

cheap finds

I recently got these for myself,

forever 21 earings

Rhinestoned Round Studs P119 and Sparkling Bead Earrings P119 from Forever 21, I got the two for the price of one. 🙂

forever 21 wayfarer

A new wayfarer at P365 from Forever 21 too, just perfect for the summer month.

tony moly bb cream

Tony Moly BB Cream at P328, a cheap alternative for my Mary Kay foundations.

I think I’ll need some comfy tees for the long break, might sneak a look at the Fashion Market this coming weekend.

And oh, the beach, I’m havin’ second thoughts because of the oil spill at La Union. Tho news says it’s now clear at Urbiztondo I won’t take chances. I’m still checking the coast of Ilocos Sur, otherwise, we might content with the rivulet nearby my in-laws. I’m excited about driving back to Ilocos once more but this means missing another Holy Week back with my folks in Cavite. I wonder how they’ll spend it this year. Anyhow, we’ll soon fix this “his place-my place” issue soon as we have all our resources in real form. 😀

P.S. I will be engaged starting tomorrow and I can’t wait to have fun, fun and fun…stay positive everyone!

Sundate at Tong Yang

I know our splurge to eat huge last Sunday night was not timely especially that it’s still the season of Lent but sensing that the husband needs some feel good flash, I don’t turn for any second thoughts.

tong yang jupiter-2

We’ve known to be big-eaters and buffet style is always our preference, so, when we decided to dine out last Sunday we have a very limited option considering its price, location and cooking. And since I cannot eat too much red meat and poultry, a shabu-shabu style with plentiful of seafood selection would be a healthier option, I think. I frequented a shabu-shabu place in SM Megamall but the mall’s very crowded picture on weekend is a no for us. Fortunately, it has a branch nearby our favorite Army Navy branch in Jupiter St. 🙂

tong yang jupiter-3

Tong Yang Shabu-Shabu and Barbecue Restaurant at Bel-Air is spacious, tho I preferred more how the spread were put together at SM Megamall. Anyhow, because we were one of the few early birds we were able to savor everything untouched and at no queue at all. Be sure to be there on or before 5:30pm if you’re taking the dinner buffet and ensure you make a reservation prior.

tong yang jupiter-2

Now, let me fast forward our buffet marathon here. First, decide if you want the Shabu-Shabu or the Shabu-Shabu & Grill. I always go for the latter because it’s fun grilling and boiling at the same time. 😀 Next is, choose your soup base, you can have two flavors together in the shabu-shabu hotpot and we got Sinigang and Spicy Sate for that. Funny but I failed to capture even a single photo of our hotpot here, I did it again!

tong yang jupiter-4

Go get your shabu-shabu meat and seafood items –balls, dumplings, sliced beef, abalone, prawns, clams and veggies, etc.

tong yang jupiter-5

Then move forward at the barbecue items –chicken, chorizo, tocino (my favorite here), pork, hotdogs, pork intestines (which the husband favored amongst), baby octopus, spicy cuttlefish (another favorite), tanigue, tuna belly, etc.

tong yang jupiter-6

Actually there are too many choices so you won’t go back over the same thing unless you’re like me who went back three times for the tocino. 😛

tong yang jupiter-7tong yang jupiter-8

After loading your table with stuffs for cooking, help yourself with some ready to eat items from the Japanese and Chinese station –sushi, crispy fried shrimps, salad, steamed and fried dumplings, steamed crabs, noodles and rice. You can eat those while waiting for your raw items to get cooked.

tong yang jupiter-9

Don’t forget the sauces; I always have the Sate Egg and Shabu-Shabu sauce while the husband had some Chili Vinegar for his grilled.

tong yang jupiter-10

While the husband was busy with his grilling, I had my time, he loves me that way, I can just sit and wait. 😛

tong yang jupiter-11

By the way, if you go for the Eat & Drink All You Can! dessert is inclusive too –they have Big Scoop ice creams (I wish they’ll include the pistachio variant), Goldilocks roll cake, coconut macaroons, halo-halo and fresh fruits. Drinks are soda (Coke products), fruit juices, iced tea, San Miguel Draft Beer and coffee.

tong yang jupiter-12tong yang jupiter-13tong yang jupiter-14tong yang jupiter-15tong yang jupiter-16

I hope I don’t forget any of the buffet items, so, if you’re liking to try it don’t think twice, it’s P585 net price is so worth it, just leave a nominal change for the very attentive wait staffs!

tong yang jupiter-17

And this is my not so-yummy looking halo-halo because they don’t have ube-flavored ice cream to go with it. Nevertheless, we had a grand dinner and I thank the Lord for this blessing of good food. And I was happy that the husband had a buoyant spirit after. 🙂

Shen at Ten!

ate shen at 10-1

The first time I saw her in 2007 I crush her from the start, that despite the existence of our adorable B then I still wanted someone like her. She was so charming and gorgeously sweet to everyone.

ate shen at 10-2

In 2008, the heavens heard my plea and gave her to us. Her humans left her to stay with us for the next three years, of course I was the happiest but I worried that she may not cope with the separation, I have heard stories before –some died because of a broken heart. But with her very friendly and naturally happy disposition, she gets along easily with the “boss” of the house. The “boss” of the house is the one who’s very possessive, jealous and prima donna. You know who! 🙂

The “boss” approved our adoption of her, thus Shen-Shen became part of our family and the “boss” big sister from then on. They became inseparable, and until this day I believe Ate Shen is the only dog B could ever love. B loves her dearly even if she’s not that showy. And Ate Shen loves her back; I can tell how Ate shielded B one time when the latter was attacked from behind by our neighbor’s small-but-terrible Aspin. But you know how naughty B can be at times, there was this time when B locked Ate Shen at the comfort room, so, without anyone around Ate was trapped the whole day. Those were the days.

ate shen at 10-3

Ate Shen’s relocation to my parent’s house in 2009 was another major decision; we have to consider the pros only because we thought it’s best for her, foremost taking into consideration her age and her condition. She needs a cooler home by summer and a garden to strut her legs. Also, Ate Shen needs someone to look after her during the day. We do regular visits, and regular photo shoots for the two biggies. Ate was always the happiest seeing us.

ate shen at 10-9

When it’s B’s time to go home and join Ate Shen at my parent’s house in 2011, Ate Shen became B’s comfort; she ensures B won’t feel unhappy at all. She stands as the big sister from the start. Now that the two of them are together once more, all I can see from Ate Shen’s eyes is happiness and contentment. She cannot ask for anything more except for a meaty and saucy meal all the time. 😀

ate shen at 10-8

And on this day, despite Momi and Dadi’s absence on your special day Ate, we never forgot to ask Lola to cook something for you, we never forgot to remind the kids to greet you today, we’re missing your big birthday nevertheless you will always have that special mark in our hearts. You just don’t know how sad I was when your humans went back, I thought we’re losing you for good, but God’s will you were given to us for keeps.

ate shen at 10-5

Ate, I know each day you feel your age by now. I know how you feel when at times other humans will call you the sluggish one, if only they know how you still love to run and chase away the wind they would not judge you from beyond.

ate shen at 10-10

For us, you remain to be the happy one, the charming and sweet canine, except for the white hair around your snout and eyebrows you remain to be like the first time I met you.

ate shen at 10-6

As you turn 10 today (and 66 in human years), may you have the happiest, we wish you another hale and hearty year. Don’t forget to look up high and smile! We love you Ate Shen from the deepest of the sea and from the highest of the skies. 😛
