The Month of the Heart of Winter

the new leaf of January is my Month!

Monthly Archives: December 2012

on making a difference part ii

My Christmas project continued following the treat to the kids during the first week of December, the brown bags last week, yup, I set another date a day before Christmas Day. It’s a simple Christmas lunch treat to all our house helps old and new (well, of course we didn’t invite the one who ran away and unfortunately Ate Baby had to miss it because of a recent family loss). This one I call the grown-up edition. 🙂

With all honesty I didn’t grew up with any house aid around, we’re not well-off and it’s pretty understood that hiring one isn’t appropriate at all. I was raised doing some household chores like cleaning, cleaning and cleaning. I don’t know but that was the only task my Nanay continued to employ until my senior years in high school, perhaps she never trusted my cooking expertise the reason why. 😀  The good thing is I was saved in doing the laundry too because she’s an OC when it comes to washing our clothes. Yet despite my being a lazy dog around the house we survived way back then without any house helps, until my sister’s first born came a nanny was hired at once. There were plenty of nannies who come and go some were worthy (which we regret when we allowed them to go) and some were mind-blowing (which we send home right away). Over the years finding people who prove genuine concern was a real hard ordeal. It was a hit and miss affair.

And this batch of “old and new” forms the new set we have at home, they are like family to us hence they deserve a treat once in awhile.

It was another happy occasion as they get-together in one place, a happy half-day off for everyone. 🙂

The only favor I’d like to ask from these people is to take care of my parents as they come to age, may they look upon them as their own. And I hope it’s not too much to ask but trust is a very important factor, it’s hard to measure the value of it in a relationship but we all know the cost of losing it, please, say no to matters that will break up the balance we currently have at home.

Nanay and her girls!

Nanay and her girls!

Merry Christmas to each of you and I hope you liked the simple token we hand over on Christmas Day. 🙂

the Christmas project

I always wanted to share my blessings regardless of its quantity because I feel good by doing it freely. And I thought by doing a small form of contribution this way I can return all the good things that are coming my way. This is my way of saying “Thank You” to everyone and most of all to our good Lord for allowing me to have lived this life.

Another Christmas project I was fortunate to play a part was during our Barangay’s Christmas Party last December 21. I may not be physically present to catch a glimpse of the event but in spirit I was there as these brown bags were handed to kids. I volunteered to sponsor the simple loot bags which I prepared together with the aid of the house helps.

I hope the kids enjoyed the goodies Leoncio and I personally picked. 🙂

holiday mode

I had a wonderful Christmas Day and I hope you had one too! But hey, Christmas isn’t over yet, I still have more Christmas celebrations to look forward to.

Sorry for the absence, I’m enjoying my time and I promise to write about everything soon as this holiday craze concludes. Have a Prosperous New Year folks! 😛

the day we turned 7!

Ours was not a fairly tale and will never be but despite its flaws and broken promises we stay behind to support, to love and most of all to take care of each other as we grow old.  I bet you all know this song which literally speaks of how we are to each other at this chapter of our married life. 🙂

I wanna make you smile whenever you’re sad
Carry you around when your arthritis is bad
Oh all I wanna do is grow old with you
I’ll get your medicine when your tummy aches
Build you a fire if the furnace breaks
Oh it could be so nice, growing old with you
I’ll miss you
Kiss you
Give you my coat when you are cold
Need you
Feed you
Even let ya hold the remote control
So let me do the dishes in our kitchen sink
Put you to bed when you’ve had too much to drink
I could be the man who grows old with you
I wanna grow old with you

Yes, I want to grow old with the man who wouldn’t do anything but to make me smile (kahit galit na galit na ako) and because he loves to go along with me even if it’s means waiting for hours at the nail salon it’s dagdag 100 pogi points for him, hehehe. Over the years I realized more how Leoncio wanted to watch every step I will take so he can catch me whenever I fall (lampa kase ako 🙂  ). Seriously, I’ve never seen him so caring for the last six years and his big change in 2012 was something that makes me a happy wife that is. He’s much concerned now. Probably he sensed my being needy of attention and affection has sprout from somewhere else and he has no choice this time but to give in to my tantrums or else, or else, wala lang naman. 😀

This year to celebrate our 7th year we headed South for a change, not an absolutely change from our Makati-Taguig routine but because we’re having our dinner free we don’t mind our gas consumption and even the higher toll fee that we have to endure. I guess using the Skyway once in a while isn’t a splurge after all, it’s just being practical.

Our date place this year was the posh Acacia Hotel in Alabang. Remember my winning last May, yep, I reserved that dinner buffet GC for this occasion so we can save the money and put it for our “forty” project next year. Special thanks to Mae Ilagan of Eats a Date! for this. 🙂

Since our wedding anniversary falls on a Thursday this year, Acaci, one of the hotel’s restaurants wasn’t a busy sight. In fact we were the third diner that night so it gives me the liberty to peek and shoot the wide spread of local and international dishes. And probably because it’s been a while since we feasted on a hotel buffet I was bowled over the tempting choices from its fresh crustaceans, roasted meats and luscious sweets.

Do I need to say more? Let the photos of our dinner-date speaks for itself. It was a grandiose fête for us!

Cheeses & Cold cuts

And more salads

Fresh Fruits

And sweets overload!

There’s also a Chinese & Noodles station, Carving Station which you shouldn’t miss, Korean station, whatelse… some Filipino staples and a whole lot more. I thought I accounted everything until I review back the photos. Anyhow, we enjoyed much the dinner and I wanted to eat more only that I was worried I would look flabby on my little black dress the following day.

I feel so heavy after three hours and the reason behind were the plateful of dishes we sampled.

And there are two more things I love about Acaci,

Pandan drink

And this block of cheese! 😛

Our seven years isn’t just a shaggy dog story but we learned so much from our past. We look forward to another seven years and more of togetherness –to have and to hold, from this day forward, for better, for worse, for richer, for poorer, in sickness and in health, until death do us part, yes, seven years ago had fleetingly pass. I love you ‘ney!

hello Christmas!

The busiest time of the year has got me by now with so many loads ahead before Christmas Day itself. After attending two great parties, I now look forward to 3 or more. And my gift list isn’t complete yet so I need to go and visit the mall one more time. I love this occasion and I love the Christmas rush, so be it! I can’t promise to bring up to date happenings this time but I promise to blog and blog hop once in a while.
