date nights_1

As a couple for the last 8 years the path we crossed was not always a smooth one and free of disagreements, we have difficult times but that’s part of married life, the real one that is not fictionalized. We’re not perfect and nobody is and at this time and age when some of my friends remained alone and single, some were already at odds with their spouses, some have financial and marital issues and some had lost their partner naturally, I feel luckier that despite the many imperfections we still have each other to wake up each morning.

*excuse the messy hair

And there’s no real secret to it because we’re just choosing love everyday, we still go on dates like it was the first few months of being together, we goof at coffee shops –we enjoy the little things that’s it.

Ssshhh, it makes a little perfect if you have the same sweet tooth and love for coffee and Chinese food and cheese and chocolates!

The truth, I just want to make way for these foodie pics! 🙂

“ber” month

Counting to less than 50 days before Christmas by now and yet I haven’t done any post about the yuletide, the happenings bound to come, the shopping events, the wish list and so on and so forth, I’m too lousy and lazy because work life had been challenging this time, always in a hurry that’s why blogging took a setback. My sundate series almost stopped because I’m losing the oomph to go out on Sundays, above all the early Sundays for the breakfast series too. I’m getting older day by day. And Christmas seem to be sad at this blog… 😦

What the heck? I may be old and grumpy and hollow to some but that doesn’t mean I’ll stop believing about Christmas, I’ll be forever in love with the season no matter how grayish my hair would become, no matter how blurry my eyes will get and no matter how challenging it is for me to listen in Christmas carols in time. Excuse my thoughts but I’m really this, emotional as ever as the season of love and giving draw nearer and nearer. Sigh!

bermonth_3

Anyhow, this year I’m trying to be budget conscious, that’s rule number one, oh well, I think every year it’s basically the goal other than I always end up breaking the rule and spend lavishly during the occasion. Ang sarap kaya mag-shopping! 😀  But I had enough of the previous years, I’m hating the feeling and the aftermath of the holidays especially when there’s nothing left on my birthday. Poorita ang dating! 😦  So, I’ll be firmer this time and I’ll stop going to the mall by the second week of December, which means I have only three weeks to complete my Christmas shopping for family and friends. I hope the fund will be credited this soon so I can take advantage of the less crowded mall.

bermonth_1

*unique, multi-purpose designer papers featuring watercolor drawings from swathe manila

No worries, I started gifting the family as early as October, the major gifts and my favorite people in tow. I also started buying for my grown-up godchildren and for Leoncio’s side of the family, now I’m down to hunting for unique items for my girls back at the office. If only I had enough fund to buy everything as early as tomorrow morning, hehehe, kidding aside, shopping always gives me that certain feeling of happiness and accomplishment and I bet you also had that same feeling –feeling mayaman! Hahaha…

And seriously, Christmas to some maybe like any ordinary day and to many including me, Christmas would always be the favorite time of the year to be merry, to be thankful, to be generous and to be charitable. It’s the time to get-together, I’m excited to bits only that it worries me a bit that I’ll have little rest and sleep despite the forthcoming long break, I’ll be busy with things left and right certainly, but despite that I’m jumpy to share bed with my big B the entire holidays. Momi can’t wait!

On the lighter side, it’s Friday tonight and I’m blogging somewhere after the ever-unfailing chicken dinner. Tomorrow would be my first rest day after a gruesome work week, this week is awfully argh! I’m trying not to complain but sometimes it really gets on me because it’s tiring, very tiring that it ends me up eating rice on dinner and the sinful barbeque last night, well, at least it makes sense –a good excuse per se to cheat on my meals because I need a pick-me upper! The second rest day for sure would be our date time, over an Italian lunch to conclude the very short weekend.

bermonth_2.1

Oh wait, my breakfast tomorrow would be a repeat of the last two Sundays. Monge bread with homemade ham and emental cheese! ♥

bermonth_4

For now, happy Friday folks and may all of you have the soundest sleep tonight! 😛

about the long pause

I haven’t written for a while not because I’m losing the drive or anything, it just that August passed by too fast and before I knew it, the “ber” month is already here. I wish I have a droid to take charge of this blog while I’m out and getting too many things on my hand. Sigh!

August was supposed to be a slow-down being it’s the ghost month but I’m no Chinese, so while the chinky-eyed community took most of their day off this rainy month I was out and around trying to make a difference. I went on a five-day vacay in Cavite after a workday was sandwiched with two holidays, so technically I was on leave for a day only. However, I did not go on a real break rather I was out on most days talking to people, doing a lot more of volunteer work this time for the batch reunion I’m spearheading (ehem). My high school batch will mark its Silver Anniversary by May of next year so we’re down to only 9 months of preparation. Tho there were previous meetings and gatherings, I noticed that I kept seeing the same people because the same people were the ones religiously doing their part, they’re the ones committed and easy to work with. That despite of the circulating negative issues about some of them, insert personal issues here, I remained mum about it because they’ve been of help, big help in fact to the group so why would I dwell on the unhelpful concerns. Besides, we’re ll grown-up and I guess pointing my finger on them would just mean an intrusion to their private lives.

oplan katok_1

August 21, our Oplan Katok started to roll around town, it was the pet project of AP commencing the reunion campaign. It was a day out to pay a visit class members, say hi and hellos once more, and to keep the spirit of our batch buzzing in prep for the grand day. Actually, the target were those mostly living in the countryside, and those we can’t find online, mga di-fanatic ng facebook. 😀 We started the day early on day one beginning at Tambo Malaki off to Pulo, Carasuchi, Guyam, Lumampong, Tambo Kulit and Tambo Balagbag where we stopped over for a quick and hearty lunch. In the afternoon we trooped the neighboring barangay –Daine and Tambo Ilaya and later on drove to Barangay 4 in Poblacion, Calumpang Cerca & Lejos and Kayquit. It was an exhausting day other than we never really felt that way, we had a great day despite the scorching heat of the sun, despite the dusty road and all and we’d like to believe as well that we succeed in a way because of the awe-inspiring feel of being young and excited.

This was how we fared on day one, all smiles despite the stinky smell and hunger. We send our thank you to those who were kind enough to serve us water and soda during our flight. May God bless you all a hundredfold. 🙂

August 22, I personally ordered a rest day for the group because it’s obvious we’re no more teens, we easily gets tired and at times burned out when doing things continually. The team needed a break and I want to give them time as well to attend their own personal errands, and family. Besides some had work that Friday so after sending my thank you note, I was surprised to receive a “who u?” reply. My God! At this time and age it’s funny when someone would ask me who am I because I don’t text strangers, if it’s the first time to text the person I would readily introduce myself at the onset. So, I therefore conclude that he didn’t save my second number. If I were a bit younger I might had tripped up this guy and pretend I’m his future but I don’t have the luxury of time to fool around, I have to say it straight. Kung kaharap ko nga lang baka nabatukan ko pa!

22aug_2014_1

GL was a friend from the time when we were just freshman. He was one of the rowdy boys in our class aside from his very deafening tone of voice. Siya yun tipong parang nasa giyera lagi o kaya ay nasa  sabungan, hyper and all. I had a short exchange of sms with him that morning and because I needed someone who could drive me around for free, well, what do you know his schedule was perfect that day.

By mid-afternoon we were in Tagaytay, it’s the usual day out with the kids and Nanay, and probably because we came in early, Summit Ridge was empty. I love. I treated them over pizza and pasta at Shakey’s and later on we moved to Starbucks to get our coffee fix. A trip to Tagaytay would never ever be complete for the kids without that coffee experience from the favored coffee shop. I had to work a bit and go online while my party was enjoying the comfy seat and lounging, sipping their hot brew like a big shot. Kuya P had that out of the blue tantrum and Ate SAM’s drink accidentally spilled out at her white shorts, despite these hard lucks we ended the day well. We got home safe and sound and all in one piece, thank you G for the smooth ride. Next time ulit ha pag wala kaming driver. 🙂

oplan katok_14

August 23, it’s day two of our Oplan Katok. I thought we could cover the remaining barangays already in half day, so we started the day at past 2pm.

The group was rather small and behindhand this time other than what we thought diminutive still turned out a happy and fulfilling one. We completed the barangays of Alulod, Kaytapos, Mahabang Kahoy Cerca, Mahabang Kahoy Balagbag, Buna Lejos and Barangay 1 & 3.

oplan katok_20

We caught AVR off guarded, and since he owed us too many because of the many promises of attendance and help, he had no choice but to treat us over dinner. It became his belated birthday blowout following his August 21st birthday. Belated happy birthday still and thank you for the Chicken Joy, thank you for making our Sabado filled with love and blessing.

24aug_2014_2

August 24, I reserved this day for my big B after missing a grand party in celebration of her 7th. We thought she’d love it better that we go out as a family once again like the old days when she was growing up.

24aug_2014_1

24aug_2014_8

A day out at this now celebrated dog café in San Juan made her 7th exclusive and wonderful. After a charming mid-afternoon snack and meeting the café resident golden retriever named Jack we drove to BGC to meet more furry friends. I won’t talk about much of the dog café for now, a separate post for that is a must. 🙂

24aug_2014_3

If you must know, the big B had changed her preference of playmates over the years. She prefers now the two-legged playfellow rather than the four-legged of her kind. She loves it especially with kids who’d pet her and hug her and kiss her like a little pup. ♥

24aug_2014_7

After a little shopping at SM Aura we ended over dinner at Italianni’s, another first for the kids and I’m happy that they enjoyed the pasta and pizza and the complimentary Tuscan bread. 🙂 We drove home past 8pm already, our passengers including the big B was dog-tired and slept during the entire trip back to Cavite. I love it when days are carefree as this one, when there’s no need to think about going to work on Mondays. The following day was another holiday, thank God for that long weekend break, we spent it freely and laid-back with people that matters most.

25aug_2014_1

August 25, I finally had the time to rest well and feel the holiday mode. I spent the entire day with the big B while Dadi gave them bath in the afternoon. My Boi had been behaving nicely these days and we hope to unleash him in no time. Yehey!

25aug_2014_2

Tatay had been busy with his rambutan fruits, he’s picking the last few pieces when we’re there that’s why we had some take home when we went back to Manila that night including the sweet Bangkok santols. And tho the house including the household remained in mayhem because of the helper issue and clutter everywhere, wanted long-term yaya for Ysa, we remained a peace-loving family, we remained full of beans and I pray for healthiness alone.

Back to reality. After five days of vacationing in Cavite I was back to work shortly, there were plentiful of issues as usual, I actually expected it because it normally happen following long breaks, especially when you have someone in your team that skips her homework when the boss is away. Hahaha. But thankfully none that I can’t fix so far, none that I can’t vindicate, I always thank the former mentor for instilling in me the values of how to be a good leader, of how not to be a double dealer by all means. So, I’m living the corporate life with issues here and there, and there’s no color to it when at times I’d babble and feel lazy, I love it at work nevertheless and I’m only human entitled to feel weariness and sickness once in a while.

That Friday we’re home bound once more after a quick dinner at our favorite carenderia in Palanan, Makati. It’s good that the following day was Dadi’s off so even if we arrived so late at home I don’t have to worry about him getting too little sleep. Of course the big B was the happiest, she’ll have Momi again over the weekend.

grandmeeting_batch90_1

August 30, the day has come! What’s makin’ me occupied was this high school reunion thing, since I’m  on top of the organization and everything else –solicitation, mobilization, logistics, paper works, etc., I haven’t been hanging out with the maternals lately. I am on a busier sched when at home in Cavite because aside from this batch reunion, I’m also part of the Grand Alumni Homecoming happening next year. The Alma Mater will turn 50 on 2016 and by June of 2015 the year-long celebration will start already. So you imagine the loads I’m having outside my procurement career, the more I need vitamin C to evade the common flu and keep going. Bawal magkasakit!

Anyway, the grand meeting last August 30 was a huge success. I can say now that we’re on our way to getting it done, we’re on our way for the Silver Anniversary and all we need is just a little more push. The attendance was overwhelming and the feedback was heartwarming. I can’t thank enough the group’s effort during our two-day Oplan Katok, it paid off really well. Kudos to my errand boys –AP, GL, HE and to the only rose amongst RA.

25aug_2014_3

Now, I hope this very looong post explains the silence for a while. I have tons of backlogs and I haven’t figure out where to start, the very least I guess but that would still require time and energy and ambiance. I’m staying at the city this weekend (I’ll be missing home and the kids) and will check around how the “ber” month is making headway. The Greenhills COD started its construction a week back so I’m feeling the season and Christmas is coming soon whether you like it or not! 😛

sundate no.32_4

Jun 29. A month after Nanay’s birthday weekend we marked Tatay’s birthday this time, it was another belated celebration because his birthday fell on mid-week and everyone had work except the celebrator of course because he had a valid birthday leave, the additional perks of a government employee. I somehow regret the opportunity I had before, probably if I did pursue my pre-mature career in the bureau I’m now in a more secured post and just the same expectant of a good retirement pay by the time comes. But all because I’m young and eager that time, and the government scene wasn’t yet in my terms I flew back to the city to try my luck. After 18 years I can’t say I won my battle, not yet, I still have a lot of chasing to do.

Back at my Tatay’s belated birthday celebration, we drove to The Little Souls first to hear mass in the morning. I love that Tagaytay’s weather is gradually picking up, the cold breeze is definitely there even at mid-morning. Actually the temperature didn’t go beyond its 24°C daily mean even during the peak of summer that’s why I don’t get it when someone went home disappointed about Tagaytay and complained about how humid it was. Maybe she went on the wrong side of the ridge or probably her normal is way beyond the 37 °C body temperature, I thought I was the only one born in Alaska for that matter (that’s how my friend Minerva always tell me esp when everyone else at the workplace is chilling and yet I’m no way wearing my coat). I’ve been telling it in the past, I love everything in Tagaytay, and one feels solace and quietness particularly if you’d discover isolated places within the city. The mass offered at The Little Souls is one of the things I always look forward when coming home, the homily is solid without any stain of political issues and I guess it’s just right because that’s the very essence why there is a separation of the church and the state. I hope my town folks would realize that.

I just wondered why there’s no healing at The Little Soul’s right after the mass, probably we missed the announcement. Right after the mass we trouped at Josephine’s for lunch, it was a communal choice between my sister and I especially that we haven’t dined there as a family. We were supposed to dine at the upper dining area when everyone else’s order ala carte dishes but we were all taken shortly soon as we checked the Weekend Lunch Buffet. It was a sudden feast to our eyes and we all bet it’s pretty worth it –seize the chance, we’re big eaters so you know!

sundate no.32_1

Josephine’s Weekend Buffet Lunch is definitely grill and more, they had grilled tilapia & pork liempo, hot dishes includes kare-kare, pork binagoongan, glass noodles, steamed mussels, blanched veggies (lady fingers, eggplant & water spinach), fish spring rolls, pork sinigang. There’s a DIY salad station for the healthy eaters and a dessert corner for your sweet fix. Fruit juice is overflowing if you’d ask. The rate is P550+ per head. But since we had two senior in tow, we got theirs discounted and another round of discount because we had a social contact who works at the restaurant and this was the second time he extended his employee discount to us. Thanks Itoy!

sundate no.32_2

sundate no.32_9

We even requested the restaurant crew for a surprise birthday greeting with candle blowing and all. Tatay was surprised of course but being the natural party pooper he is, it was like “fine” and “thank you”. That’s the obvious reason also why we didn’t took the effort to give him a surprise party like Nanay’s, because he don’t have that whoop it up personality unlike us who love the merrymaking and partying. Nonetheless, we love him still and we all look up to him and thank you will not be enough for everything he had done for the family.

Jun 8. Now, this post is about to break the routine. Because I’m not really fond of jotting down my past activities I had this tendency to forget what I’m actually doing that very day, thanks for the photos at least I have something to write about. 🙂

This dining event happened few days ahead before my latest post, sorry if the dates aren’t in order here as I could no longer even recall what made us drove to the mall that day. As I told before, Italianni’s isn’t a regular restaurant for us. We can’t afford to shell out more than a thousand bucks every meal but once in a while we feel like we need to splurge a little 😀 and think that we’re moneyed. It’s just money and we’ll make it again and again.

We were at Italianni’s for late lunch once again, we had brunch earlier that day that’s why we weren’t too hungry when we arrived. We we’re thinking of getting an order of fresh insalata and a big pasta plate but we find it too hard to pass on getting an order of pizza ovale. We’re both partial to Italianni’s dough and its topping, and because of that our standard of pizza has become upscale and sosyal. 🙂

sundate no.31_2

Seafood Cioppino’s. Mussels, shrimps, clams, calamari and spaghetti in cioppino, enchanted with chilli flakes. We love this to bits because it had all our favorite seafood.

sundate no.31_3

Pizza Abbondaza. Sicilian style pizza with three flavors: calssico pizza, pesto meditteraneo and quattro formaggio topped with feta cheese.

sundate no.31_4

The word “formaggio” got me, no-brainer at all it’s one of the best. ♥

sundate no.31_5

I love it that we’re not in a rush, we had our time that afternoon and I love to think that work isn’t due the following day, oh Monday I think I’m allergic to you.

sundate no.31_7

P.S. I remember now, we were at the mall that day because I needed to buy belated gifts for my two goddaughter

sundate no.31_6

…and because it’s Sunday we had to stock up food for the week, how about some bargain Biscoff from Rustan’s? I got so lucky! 😛

sundate no.30_1

A week of planning, a day of preparation, a morning of speedy cooking and a witty & bright connivance put together a perfect belated birthday surprise for the matriarch, on a sunny Sunday, it was all labor of love. ♥

Nanay had the blues during her birthday because there was no celebration at home. When I tried to call, her mobile phone was unable to receive my call because the speaker was malfunctioning. 😦 I texted her to ask what she’s cooking, the response was a gloomy “none at all”, I thought she had plans of going out with Ate SAM that day but it didn’t happen for reasons I didn’t bother to ask anymore. I cut my very short convo with her that day thru text because I felt I was adding more injure to her disappointment by then. Little did she know we’re up to something? 🙂

The following day, ze Saturday, after attending Mjane’s wedding Leoncio and I drove hurriedly to Cavite. We need to catch whatever there is at Mahogany market or else we’re dead. On our way I was surprised to receive Che & SAM’s text that they were at Little Soul’s attending the anticipated mass, how come? Tatay was supposed to invite Nanay to Sunday mass so we can freely prepare the morning spread. Now what? Nanay had no idea I was coming home that Saturday night so when she learned about my coming home, she sensed something already. The more when we had to stay very late in Tagaytay, but the truth, we’re just at my sister’s house rushing the preparations. Our only dilemma that time was how we’re going to send Nanay out in the morning so we can set up everything. We had only one person left in mind who’s credible enough to do the extra fun.

Ze Sunday, the 1st of June, I woke up at past 5am already which was an hour late from the original supposedly “call time”. I caught Nanay at the kitchen, wide-awake and preparing macaroni soup for breakfast. I avoided a convo with her and immediately made my way at the bathroom. Tho I know she wondered my bathing so early, I kept mum, besides I really need a good shower after a long day at the wedding, my hair was still gluey from too much hair sprays and I stink after sweating buckets while chopping and cooking the night before. While at the shower I overheard a very familiar voice, the plan must be working, oh yes! But when I stepped out of the shower mother dear was still at the kitchen, naku paano na? We were running out of time, and then the visitor went back again, I was relieved. Finally Kap B (our barangay captian) was able to convince Nanay to go with him to check on something. We told Kap that we needed at least 2 hours so he needs to divert Nanay and go somewhere else.

sundate no.30_3

Soon as Nanay and Kap went out our challenge started out, I had to cook three mains at the same time, the sister had to perfect her pancakes, the BIL had to chop whatever was needed, SAM worked with the drape and set up and P had to look for baby Ysa. The house help later on continued the frying.

sundate no.30_2

The maternals arrived even before we set up the breakfast table so it added pressure to us and chaos to the household, Hay! I was moving double time and after one long breathe tada! We’re down and ready! 🙂

To date it was my best sundate ever, one of the best breakfast spree I had and one of the most memorable and exciting event to count. ♥♥♥

When I was little I didn’t get to celebrate birthdays with party and food all the time, I could only remember the 7th perhaps, the 18th wasn’t that biggie, the 25th was more of a family reunion, and my 40th was nothing at all. After my 40th I somehow felt the lost of relevance in marking any birthdays, I was a bit disappointed that my 40th birthday didn’t happen and no one really pay heed to even cook pancit for me, the least they could do. Sigh! 😦 I was decided to ignore all the upcoming birthdays too, it’s just a day and it will pass quietly like any other day. But maybe I was really that gentle and emotional, I can’t stand not to celebrate or do something when their birthday comes. They’re blessed to have me. 🙂

sundate no.30_25

Birthdays are great reminders of the importance of life, its preciousness and all. I always believe that every birthday should be fêted because time is ticking, our life is passing and before you know it you’ll rotten and old.  Everyone needs to celebrate birthdays because it’s simply worth celebrating, make life as exciting as you were younger because your life has value apart from what you have done. Don’t feel old…

“Do not regret growing older. It is a privilege denied to many.” – Anonymous

sundate no.30_26

Nanay, don’t worry about the gray hair or the blurred eyesight or the knobby knees nor the visible wrinkles and discolored skin, it’s way beyond normal still. As you marked another birthday, we thanked the Lord for the blessing of life. We can’t ask for anything more other than good health and a sound mind and body. Thank you for your caring everyday and we all look forward in celebrating more birthdays and Christmases and New Years with you. We love you! ♥

I hope you liked our little suprise and Bea’s gift to you 🙂

P.S. Before I bid goodbye to this week, let me thank all those who helped us with the preparations and to all who came to celebrate with us last Sunday, thank you for making Nanay very happy on her 62nd. Leoncio missed the event because of his pestering work which I’m beginning to loathe. You’re missing a lot ‘ney!
