all saint’s day 2014

The weather was good the entire day of All Saint’s Day, that’s why despite the lack of our own tent we survived the afternoon. Really, thanks again to the neighboring family for shading even just half of Ninang Elo and Ina’s graveyard. The paternal graveyard nearby on the other hand was well-shaded as usual.

By now, I have a very little recall of the event last November 1 at the cemetery. My recollection wasn’t the same as before and I have to do more off the cuff stories to make this a bit worth reading for, at least to my silent reader. Hello you! 😛 Like the previous years, visiting our dead was like a mini-reunion of our families because we get to see almost everyone who drops by. It was like a get-together at the memorial with food and drinks and loads of conversation. It’s that one time of the year when most of us really go on break from everything and go on a vigil and light candles and offer short prayers for our dear departed ones. I wish the whole maternal kin would be completed one day. And that the paternal relatives would somehow give time at least on this one occasion. Hay!

Anyhow, we left the memorial park around 8pm this time. From last years’ the crowd was lesser this time probably because it wasn’t a long weekend, there weren’t too many people loitering around and traffic was bearable as well, thank goodness for that because we made it home easily.

Because it was Saturday night and we felt it’s a waste to just stay home and watch horror flicks we drove to Tagaytay to kill time, to have coffee and fries, to do nothing but sit for hours. I’m a sucker for occasions like this because it’s my very idea of loosening up and taking everything slow. You know how my work day sucks back at the office so even it’s just a few hours of break I’ll grab every chance.

We love the outdoors at McDonald’s across Taal Vista, it’s like hitting two birds at the same time –eating our favorite junks while embracing the cold, wind-chilled temperature that night. And because social media is too epidemic you can’t hide from people within your network, they’d find you right there and then. Location is on that’s why. So after a few sips of my coffee, some maternal cousins arrived and joined us. They were at a tea house earlier. And since JB and family was scheduled to leave a week after that it became the start of the merry occasion cum despedida for them.

I know I’m just missing one of the favorite cousins by now that’s why this post is somehow dedicated to him again. Seriously, you can’t tell maybe in a few years time Leoncio might consider the greener pasture and decide to go other than I’ll probably have mixed decision because I fear to start at zero once again besides the parental are already old and I guess they’ll need more of me one day. I don’t know with you but committing to living and working abroad never crossed my mind even before, I always felt that it’s all about money and the good life ahead but let’s admit it that not everyone who choose the battle abroad succeeds, they have their own fair share of failure and despair. To each his own, it’s a matter of choice and my life is here.

Well, it was indeed a happy All Saint’s Day!

If I can find the same opportunity back in my hometown I’ll probably think twice this time and consider living in the south, for good. Maybe it’s the added consequence of being old; you want to spend more time with the family and with people that matters most including the unfriendly neighborhood. Hehehe. Seriously, I always look forward to driving home on weekends other than the husband’s work schedule is not permitting us this time. He works 6-days a week and holidays are not spared, so every time we’re home we make the most out of it no matter what.

Apr 13. The kids love it when I’m home because Sunday means going out, and eating out, and coffee dates and if there’s extra budget our little big boy can laze at Timezone or Sky Ranch and play. During Palm Sunday, we brought the kids at McDonald’s for a nice change from the usual Starbucks routine. Tho they’re more accustomed to Jollibee, because Jollibee’s store is nearby, our love affair with McDonald’s remains big even if we have to drive a little far off more. McDonald’s has always been a good stop, my family loves McDonald’s including my two B’s.

Timely to our visit was McDonald’s newest offer, the BFF Bundles which was basically designed for sharing. If you have seen the commercial, you’d probably raving and loving it by now. It’s one of those McDonald’s commercials that’s worth seeing and hearing over and over again. The #BetterTogether campaign was a nice move from McDonald’s and Coca-Cola because it promotes happiness, friendship and shared moments in the real world, meaning minus the gadgets and everything digital that makes us busy during meals.

We got the BFF Burger Bundle because we all heart burgers ♥, and our personal choices were the Big Mac (for Kuya P & Leoncio), McChiken for Ate SAM and McDouble Deluxe for me. I don’t know with you but the two huge serving of BFF fries were too much, I think. We ended finishing one only.

Its P599 price (bundle for 4) is value for your money ONLY if you’re all getting Big Mac under the BFF Burger Bundle, apart from it I don’t find its worth to stuff yourself with fries. Nakakalunod ang fries, promise! 😀

The day before this sundate with the kids, I had a busy day off.  But despite the many errands and activity that day I enjoyed every minute of it because I was home and around.sundate no.27_5

I was able to spend time with my adorable B, I had the chance to do her bathe again after missing it many times. The househelps had been doing the odd job ever since B started living with the parentals, tho occasionally the husband would take turns doing this when we’re home. B loves the water but hated being bathed and that explains her unhappy face when these photos were taken. My big baby is going to be mommy again, oh my!

My cousin Moki was celebrating his 25th also that day so we went at their house to celebrate in the afternoon.

I love occasions with the maternals because it gives me that sense of belonging. Tho we have issues and small rifts at times it never put any scar to the close knit we have. Blood remains to be thicker than water for us and I wish it would stay that way forever and ever. 😛

It’s a habit also that when there’s an occasion we’ll squeeze a little after party of our own. The birthday boy wasn’t able to join us because he still had visitors at home and we ploy them also that we’re going Las Pinas, that far that’s why even my cousin Irish didn’t bother to join up. 😀 Little did they know we’ll just laze around Tagaytay and have coffee and a little fun?

sundate no.27_9

My dearest cousin JB went with us. JB is one of my closest cousins in our pack because we’re just of the same age (ehem) and we grew up together and he’s ever comical persona makes a perfect company at all times. Seriously, he’s presence will be missed once they totally migrated to the land of milk and honey. Aw!

Sunday and McDonald’s has something that can simply put a smile on my face, the genuine kind. 🙂 I don’t know with you but despite its being classified as fast-food eatery and commonplace, I love the McDonald’s vibe especially on Sunday mornings when people take it slow.

A month ago I was happy to savor McDonald’s breakfast once again, happiest actually because this doesn’t happen very often. It was in fact a date with the husband at our favorite branch. I don’t mind that the weather was a bit warmer when we where there, it’s a little bit windy still and I love the color of the sky. It’s too perfect despite the fact that I haven’t taken a shower yet, hahaha.
