date nights_1

As a couple for the last 8 years the path we crossed was not always a smooth one and free of disagreements, we have difficult times but that’s part of married life, the real one that is not fictionalized. We’re not perfect and nobody is and at this time and age when some of my friends remained alone and single, some were already at odds with their spouses, some have financial and marital issues and some had lost their partner naturally, I feel luckier that despite the many imperfections we still have each other to wake up each morning.

And there’s no real secret to it because we’re just choosing love everyday, we still go on dates like it was the first few months of being together, we goof at coffee shops –we enjoy the little things that’s it.

Ssshhh, it makes a little perfect if you have the same sweet tooth and love for coffee and Chinese food and cheese and chocolates!

The truth, I just want to make way for these foodie pics! 🙂

Have a lovely Sunday folks! 😛

sundate no.28

Apr 27. It was the typical Sunday, I had errands to run while the husband had work the entire day, and as planned we met merely at dinner time to date around before welcoming the nerve-racking workweek. It’s a must that we go out during weekend and spend some time connecting with the real world a.k.a. shopping mall. 😀

sundate no.28_1

But since we still have to squeeze some time, on that particular day, to window shop for that top-sider he had long been yearning for (yes, we didn’t exactly bought it that day) we were able to sit down for dinner late. Most restaurants at the new wing of Glorietta had already pulled their “Closed” signage and we pinned down at least 2 or 3 that were still open. We’ve been passing Don Henrico’s every now and then but never considered it for the longest time because I find it steep for just the two of us and my recall of Don Henrico’s big plates is better for groups. Talk about days when SAM was growing up we used to frequent the old restaurant at Glorietta 4.

Anyhow, because I don’t want to walk any further and I’m famished by now, we settle on. The new store was very casual compared to the old store which was upscale based on my opinion. The new store had this fast food vibes and disorderly setting –mismatched chairs, compact couch seats (that’s very uncomfortable), the flooring wasn’t impressive as well, I should have taken a photo of the whole area tho you can check out here. It’s far different from the old store which was modish yet homey for my taste.

The food was another story. Because it’s late dinner already I thought of skipping the pizza, we had my usual favorite from Don Henrico’s –Onion Rings, Baked Ziti and Buffalo Wings.

sundate no.28_2

Homestyle Onion Rings. Sweet onion rings, lightly breaded and deep-fried until golden crisp; served with our very own ranch dressing.

My memory of Don Henrico’s Onion Rings was that of a basket full of lightly coated and crispy big slices of onion. So naturally I was surprised when our orders came in, more or less 10 pcs of onion rings which was oily and poorly coated (unevenly cut as well). I was dismayed. For its P170 price, it’s a rip-off! 😡

sundate no.28_3

Baked Ziti. Ziti seasoned with sautéed ground beef, Italian sausage, mushrooms, mozzarella cheese and creamy white sauce. Baked until cheese is bubbly and garnished with red sauce. P310 To Share.

There might be a reason behind this unappetizing serving of pasta and I can only assume that the cook was in a rush because it’s nearly closing or was it me and my current obsession to red sauce and olive oil. I thought I was in the rival restaurant for a while.

sundate no.28_4

Don Henrico’s Buffalo Wings. Traditional upstate New York style tender pieces of chicken wings marinated, cooked to perfection and coated with tangy BBQ sauce; served with their creamy ranch dipping sauce. P390 for 3 pieces.

Probably because I’m by now upset I didn’t pay heed anymore to our Buffalo Wings order. I cannot tell exactly if it tasted the same. I wasn’t interested anymore. 😦

I ♥ Don Henrico’s because it brings so many memories of the past esp its Session Road’s branch other than this recent dining experience didn’t impress me and left my palate in despair. What have you become now DH? Where’s that promise of great food and great ambiance go?

jt’s, angel’s + rustan’s

I still got a dozen of unwritten post up until now, I don’t know probably it’s the mood swings and the unpredictable weather that’s causing my idleness, lost of interest or whatsoever you’d like to call my delays. But believe me I’m trying to get a good recall of the photos I have so I can start a good, readable piece. Hehehe.

jt's manukan_1

Mar 1. It’s supposed to be a bright day because it’s the first day of the month plus it’s a Saturday but I don’t know what made me busy that day. 😦 All I can remember now was the simple dinner we had at JT’s Manukan in Malugay. It’s been ages since I last dined at JT’s, the one in Gilmore which I think is the first branch to open amongst the many stores now around Metro Manila and Tagaytay. It used to be our even place to-go after a badminton routine at Valencia Badminton Center, see I’m not at all a sleeping giant all my life I have a healthier schedule back then when life was still easier, back when I’m still pretty enjoying my early 30’s.

jt's manukan_2

Anyhow, JT’s Manukan specializes in chicken inasal, I remember how its owner Joel Torre (yes, the actor) keeps a close eye of the operation in Gilmore, he himself supervised the grilling part the most and everytime we’ll dine there we’ll bumped to him casually. The branch in Malugay was a permanent sight everytime we’ll pass by the area but it’s only that Saturday eve that we got the chance to dine and come back for its famed “inasal”.

jt's manukan_3

jt's manukan_4

There were a number of items on their menu but most were not available that night including an order or pork sisig, and pecho, tho a little disappointed we happily settled for an order of paa, stuffed squids and dinuguan. I wasn’t so happy with the chicken inasal but the stuffed squid was the winner of them all! ♥ Two baby squids for P65 was such as steal so I got two more orders which I willingly shared with the husband. I’ll be honest here, JT’s Manukan didn’t left an impressive impact on me other than the food is cheap and service is fast. 🙂

angel's pizza mar15_1

Mar 15. Another Saturday to lurve! ♥ Sometimes I don’t dare to ask the husband his preference because it tends to be a repeat of a repeat, hahaha, but on days I don’t really have any specific in mind he wins the restaurant of his choice.  On this day we revisited one of our favorite pizza parlors in Makati Avenue –Angel’s Pizza! Tho I wanted more to eat rice that time I can’t complain anymore because already picked the place and ordered our staples in a breeze.

angel's pizza mar15_2

The secret to a happy marriage order the pizza of your choice! *Excuse his not-so-happy-look here, deep within him he’s rejoicin’ 😀

angel's pizza mar15_3

We had two family size pizza, he got his favorite Fancy Aloha with bacon, ham, pineapple, mushroom, green pepper, mozzarella cheese with gravy sauce. I don’t really like the gravy sauce so he requested the half without it so I can savor a slice without having to dab the gravy sauce. Thank you ‘ney!

angel's pizza mar15_4

I had my favorite Garlic Shrimp pizza topped with culinary sauce (?), shrimp and garlic of course, cheddar cheese and mozzarella cheese. See how my preference can be so uncomplicated. I’m not so hard to please and feed.

angel's pizza mar15_5

Just so you know we didn’t finished our pizza, we took home more than half of what we ordered because it’s stuffing and I don’t want to feel blown up especially at dinner time. I’ve learned my lessons now to enjoy a sound sleep at night. Hehehe.

rustan's summer_3daysale_1

Right after we drove to Rustan’s Supermarket in Ayala Center. I remember Rustan’s Supermarket was having that Summer 3-day sale where it’s mostly Christmas chocolates and wines and sauces and pasta. There were items for kids as well including princess costumes and Halloween costumes for as low as P160+ only. I could have brought one only that the sizes wouldn’t fit Ysa or Kuya P, its way too big for them.

rustan's summer_3daysale_2

So, what else would make me happy and my other half would be the bounties of chocolates, we got a good stock of Fort Knox Dark and Milk Chocolates, some Peanut Butter Bar and Gum Balls. Biscoff was discounted too at P303 only.

rustan's summer_3daysale_3

And the ultimate buy was this Heart of Wisconsin Assorted Cheese Set. Imagine the price dropped from P1500+ to P395. I bugged the husband to buy me one and I got a really good one –the Cheese Wheel of Good Fortune! ♥

So there’s no sarcasm to it if I say that I soooo love weekends, who doesn’t anyway? Now, it’s time to shake off your week, take a deep breath and think positive, tomorrow is the start of a new weekend and I’m heading south to lead another batch meeting and on Sunday I’m seeing my maternal family. I’m overly excited! 🙂

an effortless v-date

vday2014_1

I’ve almost forgotten that we had a lovely date (at home, ehem) last Valentine’s Day. It’s one of those remarkable dinners so far foremost because we ate on time not to mention that we had a mouth-watering spread, the best part I put a little effort only to achieve the romantic feel. 😛

vday2014_2

On Valentine’s Day itself I stepped out of my work place around 7pm, good thing that traffic was middling because I arrived home without getting annoyed. Since I already prepared my pasta sauce a day ahead I had to reheat it simply, and boiled some pasta and voila I had a lovely plate of Filipino style spaghetti that tasted more of a kiddie-spaghetti. Hehehe

vday2014_3

We also had a half rack of cooked baby back ribs from S&R, I had to reheat it as well and spread its barbecue sauce evenly. I remember us dining at Chili’s and ordering the same, I was a bit complaining because there was not much meat left and the price was overrated. See, we saved on half of our money here and we even got a free bottle of Pepsi.

vday2014_4

Our Valentine spread complete with a bottle of wine from last Christmas and a Skittles scented candle which I got B1T1 from S&R.

vday2014_5

French Mint Truffles

vday2014_6

We had chocolates after –French Mint Truffles & Witor’s Golden, which were part of Christmas “leftover”. Thank you sponsors for sending me a good stash of sweets during the holidays. Oh, I had to have my chips as well.

vday2014_7

I’m done shooting my simple set-up even before the husband arrives, so I don’t need to stop him anymore from forking or messing up anything.

vday2014_8

And because it’s Valentine’s Day, he had chocolates for me. Thank you ‘ney for not spoiling my V-night. Hahaha.

vday2014_9

We’re an ordinary couple, we’re not hard to please, we laugh even at our corniest, we have dogfights –no couple is perfect anyway, we do stupid things and goofed around. And our married life may not be the party we hoped for, but while we’re here might as well savor every moment of it.

P.S. A good wife is one who cooks and nourishes her husband, a good husband in return is someone who do the little things…like doing the dishes after, which I hate. 😀
