I had my Tatay’s 60th birthday cake done by Iko’s Breads and Cakes and it
was a pleasure left a very good impression, I was offered with from the choices of cake, filling, icing, etc. –on top of that, the price was reasonable. And considering that I am ordering at their Tagaytay branch, I never had a hard time concerning delivery. Everyone who attended my Tatay’s birthday loved the cake. 😀
Last October I thought of getting a character cake from them once more for my godson’s 1st birthday. At first, I called Iko’s main branch in Pasig to inquire if they can make CARS theme. The lady who got my call was a particular “May”, and she readily responded yes. Then to my next inquiry if I can order in Pasig and have it delivered in Tagaytay, again, it was okay and I scheduled the visit to the bakeshop following that weekend to discuss want I wanted that is really eye-catching and inexpensive, I guess.
The place is easy to locate (we just wasted our time when we tried to ask the stupid Pasig Blue Boys! –this is not the first time husband and I encountered a not so pleasant episode with them). Anyway, the purple road signage makes it easy for to us find it. Parking is available at the façade.
When we entered there was no customer around and three sales staff appears to be busy. I passed them and went to check the stand of breads and cakes. Since it was mid afternoon, we decided to get something to pair with coffee. I don’t exactly remember what we ordered, but while we are waiting for our coffee to arrive I asked the lady at the cashier about the cake brochure. She handed me a single file, thinking that the one she gave me was not entire collection. I asked for prices too +sizes of cakes, choices of filling, icing –absolutely the same brochure I saw in Tagaytay. I was surprised when she told me they don’t have it and I can just say upfront what I want so she can give me a quote. Well, that response didn’t make me happy at all –I feel irritated by now. I continue to ask if they have at least a sample picture of their CARS themed cake, she pointed me on the glass display.
Wait! It looks like we were not talking of the same thing, until I make clear that I am referring to Disney CARS. And to my dismay, they can’t make it because of patent issue –meaning, they are not licensed to do it. She continued and told me that they can do the cake (the race car design) and I need to provide a toy (Lighting McQueen) so they use it as cake topper. The price could cost me about P2,000. I backed out because I don’t want to hassle myself of buying a toy and bringing it to Pasig again besides I cannot feel any reassurance from anyone at Iko’s that they can make a
surprising impressive concept after all. Sigh!
We left Iko’s after buying few packs of bread which are not actually cheap. I tell you people at their Pasig branch made a very remarkable impression to me –they are not welcoming.
Look here, a well-known bakeshop helped me to get this –exactly what I have in mind.
Updated as of March 27, 2013: I have been receiving plenty of inquiries about the cars cake posted here. For everyone’s info, the cake supplier isn’t Manila based; it’s located in the central hilly (upland) area of Cavite. They don’t do delivery and you have to go at the shop to tender your order. To address your cake needs, you may contact Tita Lenn’s in Pasig (contact info posted on the comments section below), they do customize cakes but I’m not sure if they can make the same cars cake. Their cupcakes are the best! 🙂 –jlau
